Common Criteria for OCD:

Presence of Obsessions: Obsessions are intrusive and unwanted thoughts, images, or urges that cause significant anxiety or distress.

Attempts to Ignore or Suppress Obsessions: The individual recognizes that these obsessions are a product of their own mind and tries to ignore or suppress them.

Presence of Compulsions: Compulsions are repetitive behaviors or mental acts that are performed to alleviate the anxiety caused by the obsessions.

Behaviors or Mental Acts:

Repetitive behaviors could include actions like washing, checking, counting, or arranging. Mental acts could include mental rituals or praying.

Behaviors or Mental Acts are Aimed at Preventing or Reducing Distress: These behaviors or mental acts are aimed at preventing a dreaded event or situation or reducing the distress triggered by the obsessions.

Time-Consuming: The obsessions or compulsions take up a significant amount of time (more than an hour a day) or interfere with the individual's daily life and functioning.

Significant Distress: The obsessions or compulsions cause significant distress, anxiety, or impairment in social, occupational, or other areas of functioning.
